Feeling The Pump: A Tech Guy’s Ongoing Journey Through Health and Tech
Navigating the pandemic reshaped our lives, and mine was no exception. Being stuck at home was tough, mentally and physically. I caught COVID twice, which brought home the severity of the situation. Gaining weight during this time was a clear wake-up call.
After experiencing frequent sickness and constant trips to the bathroom, I visited my doctor, who immediately referred me to an endocrinologist. My A1C level had soared to over 13. Exercise was a must, but Zumba wasn’t for me. That’s when I discovered The Pump app by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The 90-day, body-weight-only Foundation program was perfect as I could do it from home, and the community support was incredible.
Alongside exercise, I revamped my diet, counting calories and cutting out constant DoorDash deliveries. Over 14 months, I managed to lose 100 pounds, dropping 3 shirt sizes and 10 pant sizes, reaching the best shape of my life. But the journey didn’t end there. Maintaining this new physique and health status is a daily challenge. As I shift focus to other aspects of life, I continuously fight to maintain these hard-won gains.
Professionally, I’ve matched my health discipline with my dedication to advancing my tech skills, earning several key Microsoft certifications:
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
- Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Microsoft Azure Security Engineer Associate
- Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect Expert
Now, as I dive into Python, I’m keeping my mind as fit as my body, reminding myself that every step forward, no matter how small, is progress.
For those in the tech community facing their own health or professional challenges, remember: the journey is ongoing, and every day presents a new opportunity to reinforce our achievements. Let’s support each other in staying the course.
